On the Promenade

The last few days have been rainy and cold here. We are wishing for our warmer weather of last week. The Australians we have met have told us this is the coldest winter in five years. I am so glad we made it here for their coldest winter. (Although their coldest winter equals a cool spring day for us in Massachusetts.) Today was finally rain-free. The boys and I haven't been able to get outside to play lately, so today I took them for a walk on the promenade and let them do all the things they usually ask to do. Then we stopped by the playground for a while. I have found that no matter where we take them, or the amazing things we show them, they always enjoy the little things the most.

R loves running back and forth on these bumps on this sidewalk right in front of our building.

Every time we pass these red stairs they want to climb on them. Today I let them climb to their hearts' content.

R also loves walking on this grate. It runs the length of the promenade.

Every time C sees these bike racks he has to go through them. He has taught R to do it too.

We cross this bridge often. The train station the boys watch is in the background.

This part of the promenade is gorgeous. On the other side of the bridge there is a little restaurant that looks over the Yarra River. Australians are a tough group- they keep their outdoor cafe's open even when it is cold and raining- and there are usually people sitting outside.

The other side of the bridge- we see a lot of these river tour boats.

Back to the playground...

C on the climber.

R wanted a drink from the drinking fountain. We discovered that this is the worst drinking fountain ever made.

It isn't too bad if you press the button lightly.

But if you press on the button with a bit more force it does this...

The boys on the swings...

We are looking forward to my sister coming to visit for the next two weeks. It will be fun to have someone to show around. She has lots of plans for things she wants to do while here, so we should stay pretty busy.
Thanks for checking up on us!
