R spent some time doing the craft. He made a Ned Kelly helmet. Apparently, Ned Kelly was an outlaw who stole from banks and gave money to the poor. He and his gang had made armour out of ploughs for the big standoff with the police. The library has the original armour on display. We made sure to go upstairs to see it after the boys had made their helmets. They didn't really understand the story though, they have been using their Ned Kelly helmets as race car helmets.

We walked upstairs to find the Ned Kelly armour and came across this amazing reading room.
This is the inside wall of the reading room. The floors that circle the reading room house the library's collections, including the armour.
The boys in front of the armour. (Sorry the picture isn't that great- it was really dark.) They weren't all that impressed and were very hungry by this time. R had a huge meltdown on the tram home. It was so bad that we got off the tram two stops early and walked the rest of the way home. There is nothing more fun than a big tantrum in a crowded tram with everyone watching.
Thanks for checking on us!
